First off if you thought for one second that I was going to wear or actually even debate wearing a speedo your nuts (no pun intended)! Speedos are not what I consider “big man certified” or any man certified for that matter but to each his own!
Carrying a significant amount of weight takes a massive toll on the body, I am fortunate enough to be only 29 years old and not have any major knee or joint issues because of my weight. When I started my exercise routine it was cardio on the elliptical then that moved to the treadmill as I am training for a 5K in combination with weights. I started to notice that my shins, knees and particularly my hips were becoming very sore and even painful enough to make me want to stop during a workout. So I hit the web for remedies all the while I had the trick in my back yard as a child!
SWIMMING! I started mixing it up swimming and running to keep my body from getting too much of a beat down on the treadmill. Its working and I have become addicted to the pool. I often swim laps at a medium pace for 45 minutes to an hour depending on what other cardio or weights I did that day. I grew up with a swimming pool in the back yard of my grandmother’s home and as child spent the majority of my summers playing in the pool for hours and hours with cousins and other kids from the neighborhood. I am not new to the pool, my grandmother called me a fish and later in life some called me a whale but I think I have come down to dolphin status!
One thing about swimming laps that I want to share is its BORING unless you do something about it!!!! I am a music guy when I am working out, it’s almost as if the right playlist aids in a more productive workout. So I hit amazon.com in search of a way to rock out while swimming laps and found several options. I went with a waterproof case with headphones that holds an iPod shuffle it cost me close to $60 and attaches to my goggles. Its works great and now I can listen to music (eye of the tiger) as I am shedding ounces in the pool!

That’s pretty slick… Only for the shuffle though?
There are several options out there. I went with the shuffle case because I had one. They have stand alone units for close to $130.
